- Encyclopedia.com - A free online encyclopedia that simultaneously searches over 100 sources.
- Merriam Webster Online – An online version of the popular dictionary. Also features a thesaurus, Spanish/English translations and a medical dictionary.
I want free help from an online tutor
- Live Homework Help - Featuring live homework help from tutor.com (Northlake Public Library District card required). This service is available daily from 2:00 pm until 10:00 pm.
I want help with scholarly Internet research
- Academic Info - This site aims to provide the college & university community with a current and reliable annotated subject directory of Internet resources.
- Infomine - Produced by librarians from the University of California, this site covers many useful research topics on the Internet. Although it features a subject search, using its index of subjects is usually more effective.
- Google Scholar - Just like Google, except that the search results feature more scholarly content. Try using the excellent advanced search feature.
- The Internet Public Library - Links to high quality Internet resources created and maintained by librarians and other information professionals.
- My Virtual Reference Desk - Links to a huge variety of websites. While it can be a bit overwhelming to look at, it does contain a lot of helpful and interesting information. Check out the subject search section towards the bottom of the page.
