HOW DO I SET UP MY COMPUTER TO USE LIVE HOMEWORK HELP?


Below are the basic system requirements for Live Homework Help.

The Tutor.com classroom works on both PC and Macintosh platforms. Your computer should have Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 5.0 or higher or Netscape 4.0 or higher.

Download the Macromedia Shockwave software that is needed to run the classroom. You can download this software at http://sdc.shockwave.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi or click on the green bar below.

If you would like to speak with a tutor and/or print the session, you may download the voice and printing plug-ins for optimal use of the classroom. To do so, click on the green bar below. A microphone or headset is needed to use the voice functionality

Note: Shockwave is required for the classroom to run. The printing and voice plug-ins are optional downloads but do enhance the experience. http://www.tutor.com/install

ACCESSING LIVE HOMEWORK HELP

How do I access Live Homework Help from outside my library?
Below are the steps you need to follow to access Live Homework Help from a computer outside your library.

· You must be a Northlake Public Library District patron.
· Launch either Internet Explore 5.0 or higher or Netscape 4.0 or higher.
· If you are a first-time user, please go to the library's introductory page.

· Click on the Live Homework Help link from the Northlake Library website.
· Enter your grade level and the subject you need help in: math, science, social studies or English
· Connect to a qualified tutor in the Online Classroom for up to 20-minutes of live help.
· Fill out the survey at the end of the session after clicking on the "End Session" button in the upper right hand corner.

 

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

What system requirements are needed to run the Online Classroom?
The Tutor.com classroom works on both PC and Macintosh platforms. To use it, you must have Shockwave installed on your computer. The download is available for free, to download Click Here. You will also need at least a 56K or greater modem. Use Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher or Netscape 4.0 or higher. Set your screen at 800 x 600 or higher to run the Tutor.com Classroom. It is recommended that you quit out of all other computer programs while running the Tutor.com Classroom.

I just tried to install Shockwave and it did not install correctly.
Click Here for useful directions and solutions to common installation problems. If you are still not able to install Shockwave correctly, please feel free to contact a customer service representative at support@tutor.com. You will receive an email response within at least 24 hours.

Important note to America Online users
America Online's and Juno's Internet browsers can be unstable when running the Tutor.com Online Classroom. We recommend that these users minimize the browser that appears after you connect to the Internet, and then launch a version of Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher or Netscape 4.0 or higher.

I can't get the Online Classroom to run on my Macintosh.
If you are using a Macintosh computer, you must meet the following system requirements to run the Online Classroom: Power Macintosh with at least a PowerPC 120 processor; Macintosh System 8.1 or later; 8-bit (256) colors or more; 32 MB RAM/6 MB free disk space and a Netscape 4.x or Internet Explorer 5.x browser. You should also close all applications before starting your Web browser. This will free up needed additional memory. Use the Finder header on the right side of your menu bar to close any hidden applications that are still running.

I can't get the audio to work in the Online Classroom.
Make sure you have downloaded the audio plug-in. Click Here to download all available classroom plug-ins. If this doesn't fix the problem, you should also try clearing the cache of your Internet browser by following the steps below:

From Internet Explorer or Netscape:
1.) From the main menu bar select Tools then Internet Options.
2.) Click on Delete Files, then click OK to confirm.
