Looking for the latest "Oprah" book? Want to learn how to use the Internet ? Interested in the Civil War? Writing a research paper on Watergate? Have a taste for homemade banana bread? Ready to finally finish reading MOBY DICK? Thinking of selling your car but aren't sure what it's worth? Need more information about the new prescription the doctor gave you? Perhaps you just want to hang out tonight and watch a video or listen to a new CD before you buy it. Then the Northlake Library is the right place for you!! Our Adult Services Department offers a wide variety of materials to meet your informational and recreational needs. But besides books, videos, CD's periodicals and computer resources, we also offer a fully trained, professional staff to assist you in finding the right book or resource, answer your questions and teach you how to use the computer resources available. In person or by phone, every hour that the library is open, we have a staff person available to help you. In fact, last year we assisted in answering over 9,000 reference qustions. Remember, this is your library. Whether you need to know something or are just looking for a pleasant way to spend an evening -- the library is the place to get started and the Reference Librarian is the person to ask Now Featuring... Books: There are over 37,400 books in the Adult Fiction and Adult Non-fiction collections, and more are being added every day. Books are available for a 2 week loan period, and there is no limit on the number you can check out at one time. Interlibrary Loans: If a title is not available within the library's own collection, library patrons can request that the title be sent from another library. Simply inquire about this service at the Information Desk, or call (708) 562-2301 and ask for a Reference Librarian. Magazines: There are over 130 to choose from, and back-issues are available for checkout for one week. Newspapers: All major local papers are available, including the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Barron's, Crain's Chicago Business, USA Today, and the Northlake Herald Journal. Videos: Feature films are available for $2 each per two-day checkout. Many popular newer, older, and children's films are available. Videos: Non-fiction are free and may be checked out for 2 weeks. Included are how-to, travel, hobby, biography, history, safety, and many other subject areas. Music CD's & Cassettes: Your favorites of rock, folk, classical, international, soundtracks, and more are available (limit 5per two-week checkout). Books-on-tape: Many popular titles are available on sound cassette for a loan period of 2 weeks. Computer & Internet Classes Computer Basics - If you have very little or no experience using personal computers, this class may be just for you. It covers the very basics such as using a the mouse, the desktop, and a few basic functions. This class meets once for about 1.5 hours. See the Calendar of Events for upcoming classes. Internet Basics - Are you interested in finding out what the Internet is all about? In this hands-on class you will learn basic terminology, explore some interesting web sites using Internet Explorer, do some basic searches, and print something you found yourself on the Internet during class. This class meets once for about one hour. Basic computer skills are helpful but not necessary. See the Calendar of Events for this month's classes. An Internet Access Agreement must be completed before the start of class.
