Northlake Public Library District
The staff of the Youth Serves Department is eager to help you find good books to read, locate answers to homework questions, and share some of our favorite stories and books. Here are some things we offer:
Activities For a complete list of the library's current activities, see the library's newsletter, The Bookshelf.
Storytime - For the 3 1/2 to 5 year old. Forty minutes filled with stories, fingerplays and films to introduce children to the joy of books
Summer Reading - A program designed for 1st through 6th graders to encourage reading during the summer months. There is also a "Read-to-me" program for preschoolers to encourage parents to read to their children.
Special Programs - Presented throughout the year, these programs include guest speakers, performers, arts and crafts, bingo, and film specials. Check the Calendar for the schedule of events.
Special to the Collection
Periodicals - A wide variety of periodicals are available in the Youth Department. Over forty different magazines are available for children and teachers.
If you are looking to see if the Northlake Library carries a particular magazine or newspaper, you may search the Union List of Serials Online.It will also list the magazine and newspaper holdings of other libraries in the Suburban Library System.
Parent-Teacher Section - Books cover many aspects of parenting and teaching - from toilet training and sibling rivalry to school problems and art projects.
Holiday Books - There are fiction as well as non-fiction titles about holidays in this collection. These are available throughout the year.
Spanish - Popular titles, fiction and non-fiction, are available in Spanish. For children of all ages.
Book and Tape Kits - These are available for the child to "read-along" with a cassette.

Emergency Management for Kids by FEMA- This site teaches you how to be prepared for disasters and how you can prevent disaster damage.
Exploratorium - this online museum contains links to over 12,000 web sites that explore hundreds of intriguing topics pertaining to science, art, and human perception.
Fifty States and Capitals Has everything about a state and links to further information.
FOX Kids Fox Television has created a highly entertaining cartoon site for children. Designed to look like a "cybership" the site presents children's shows aired on FOX.
Funology.com - best place on the web to find things to do (with or without the computer). Games, jokes, recipes, experiments and much more for kids, parents, teachers; all ages.

Museum of Science and Industry of Chicago Visit the museum's exhibits, see what's new, play a game, and get help to plan your visit.
